Problem Statement

Find the failure. Build the fix.

Everything works — until it doesn’t. That’s the moment Breakpoint is built around: the breakpoint where a system, product, or process stops working for the people relying on it.

Your challenge is to identify a real failure point, understand why it breaks, and engineer a fix that holds up. Strong entries don’t just patch symptoms — they address the root cause with a working, demonstrable solution.

What a strong submission looks like

  • Identify a genuine failure point in a real-world system
  • Diagnose why it breaks and who it affects
  • Design a fix that addresses the root cause
  • Build and demonstrate a working solution

Directions

What You Can Build

Web Platforms

Applications that fix broken workflows, services, or everyday digital experiences.

AI/ML Tools

Intelligent systems that detect failures early, automate diagnosis, or prevent them entirely.

Developer Tools

Tooling that makes software more reliable, observable, or resilient.

Automation & Data Solutions

Pipelines and automations that eliminate fragile manual processes.

Directions above are starting points — any working solution that finds a failure and fixes it is in scope.

Judging

Evaluation & Judging

Submissions are evaluated across rounds — mentor evaluation in Round 2, followed by the final judging panel on 4 September 2026. Judges assess:

01

Problem Understanding

How clearly you’ve identified and framed the actual failure — not just its symptoms.

02

Quality of the Fix

Whether your solution addresses the root cause and would hold up beyond the demo.

03

Execution

A working implementation that demonstrates the fix end-to-end.

04

Clarity of Presentation

How convincingly you communicate the problem, the build, and the impact.
